Fall Brawl 2012

Its that time of year again.  Our annual Fall Brawl skateboarding contest is upon us and boy is it going to be a doozey.  Fall Brawl is an invite only contest featuring the best skateboarders New England has to offer. Wachusett Mountain Ski Area is looking for the new face and voice of our Daily Snow Conditions Report.  If you think you have what it takes to share the “Wachusett” message this winter, then we want to hear from you as soon as possible.  We are not looking for cover letters or resumes, we are looking for a video audition to be sent to us before Nov. 1.  If you can show us how good you will be for this winter job in the middle of Fall then you are probably the right person (or people)! By the way, this job is so cool, it takes 3 f people to share the position.

How to submit:

Do a 2-4 minute video as if you already had the job – show us how much fun you are having and show us how  fun we’d be having if we were right there on the slopes with you!  Label video: Wachusett Mountain Video Snow Report Audition Tape – Your Name.  Post video on YouTube and send us the link with your contact information.

This six month position runs from early November through early April. (Important to note: Job runs 7 days a week from the day the mountain opens until the day it closes; Job starts every day by 7 a.m.!)  Daily responsibilities include:

·         Collecting updated daily snow conditions information from Ski Patrol Manager.

·         Collecting updated daily weather conditions.

·         Producing daily video snow report to post on website, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter.

·         Recording daily taped phone snow report.

·         Distributing daily snow conditions report to SnoCountry and all other snow conditions reporting services.

·         Updating Snow Report on website.

·         Printing and/or Posting Snow Report throughout base lodge and base area.

·         Taking daily photo for posting on website.

·         Helping produce other ski area web videos.

·         Assisting with other digital marketing needs including maintaining photo files, monitoring social media and related websites, monitoring  customer review websites.

HARVARD MA 3RD ANNUAL LONGBOARD EVENT - PICS AND WRITE UP

On August 12^th, Harvard, MA hosted the 3^rd Annual Central Mass Longboard Competition. Organized by Mike Girard, Loaded and Orangatang ambassador and G-Form rider and employee, the event brought in competitors from far and wide. 247 total riders from over 15 states participated in the event, competing in downhill, freeride and flatland disciplines. With spectators and staff included, total attendance approached 500.

VIDEO GAMES 2013

VIDEO GAMES 2013 VIDEO GAMES 2013 (Formally known as “SOFA-KING New England”) is an interactive snowboarding event that allows the participants to enjoy the freedom of riding with the creativity of filming and editing. They can compete with friends via voting for their favorite Video Game edit online. Winners will be awarded prizes the day of the event and edits posted online will be awarded at the following event.

 WHY? – We know that most riders are bored to death with the competition circuit, and more in-tune to having fun and enjoying snowboarding. Video Games will combine the fun of filming using the whole resort, progressing tricks and creativity, and inviting everyone at all levels.

 DATES
January 26th – Wachusett, MA
February 9th – Loon Mtn, NH
March 2nd – Sunday River, ME
March 23rd – Okemo Mtn, VT

 Contest Schedule Format:
8-9 am Level 1- Registration
9-12pm Level 2- Video Game zone riding for daily prizes
12-4pm Level 3- Open time for filming the whole resort
12-4pm Special Level – Filming WORKSHOP session with RTP crew
4-5pm Final Level- Awards and presentation

 Level 2 is where all the action begins. Jam format event on Video Game features. Awards will be given to best male, best team, best female, best grom, and the secret scavenger hunt prize.

 Level 3 is open format to film and capture footage around resort. Top 10 videos will be judged by Video Games Panel, and hosted on StrapdUp.com for final voting. Teams with the most votes win, and points will be tallied for overall Grand Prize.

 Edits: VG13 will provide 20 teams with the necessary material to complete a 2 minute edit. Rights-free music and ‘intro/ender bumpers’ will be provided. The rest is up to the teams.

 Hosting: Strap’dUp will provide the hosting of videos along with the online judging system. Edits will be required a specific upload date, running length, and export format.

 Judging: Judging will be based two criteria. Edits will be submitted to VG13 on a specified date, and judged by the VG select panel. This first round helps eliminate the fluff and pushes through quality edits. Runner up edits will be hosted on ReelTheory.com. Edits will then be hosted on the StrapdUp.com site allowing the online voting system to determine the final top 3 edits. Best 3 edit prizes will be awarded at the next event.

 Grand Prize: Best overall team will be awarded the Grand Prize based on meeting final criteria: 3 completed and judged edits, overall votes from edits, and ranking based on final number of votes from all three videos. Grand Prize will be announced online November 1st 2012.

 Learn how to create digital media, and interact with some of the East Coast’s most talented filmmakers and photographers!

 Digital Media WORKSHOP Sessions: We realize that creating digital media is NOT accessible for everyone. So this is why we have provided the Digital Media WORKSHOP session for all interested participants who are not entered into the edit contest. The course will be open from 12-4 and RTP crew will formulate workshop groups with a dedicated camera specialist. Participants will receive coaching on the best practices of “etiquette”, “angles”, and practice’s that “focus” on the basics of creating good media. All participants will receive a personalized edit from that days activities. Final videos are available for personal “sponsor me” reels or personal use on YouTube for friends and family to see. Entry will be limited to a preregistration, and on availability or first come first serve basis the day of the workshop.

 Registration will be available online and also on site. Registration page and entry fee will be posted November 1st. Form your team now, be one of the first to register, and have a kick ass winter.

The object of this was to hit up as many skate spots as possible and make a sweet day edit of the whole thing.

Wachusett Mtn is looking for a Park Manager for 2012-13. Here's a decription of the responsibilities if you're curious of the position....welding knowledge would be a plus. Apply soon if you think you're going after it, maybe that way some new rails and boxes can start being made asap.

Draft Terrain Park Manager Responsibilities: Creatively designing plans for the terrain park layout, taking into account the natural features of the mountain and knowing how to turn those plans into reality Building take-offs, landings, etc. Constant care and maintenance of rail features and jumps, knowledge of when a feature should be open or closed, ensuring all signage, fencing and park entrances are in order, inspecting features to ensure that they are safe for the public Monitoring and fixing any and all equipment Organizing and executing events and competitions taking place in terrain park Making safety the number one priority — making sure that everyone is conducting themselves appropriately in the workplace and educating the public and staff in the park coordinating your team with other departments, including grooming, lifts Maintaining a park log that shows daily maintenance for every jump feature, rail, half pipe, boarder cross Guest relations and assisting ski patrol in accident situations Ensure that mountain operations/ski patrol are aware of terrain park opening/closing Conducting rider counts — it is important for terrain parks to operate based on volume — and documenting figures several times a day Maintaining a clean site Daily upkeep of all fences, signage, hit markers, jumps, rails and everything that falls into the terrain park boundaries Ensuring that all riders have park pass Overseeing all aspects of the new Air Bag operation including crowd control, parental consent forms for riders. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Being well-organized is the key to this type of position Good people management skills are an asset. A typical crew is 30 people strong — keeping everyone happy is key Administrative skills are an asset: scheduling, training, equipment/uniform sign out, computer skills, hiring Communication skills, with crew and superiors The ability to be outside no matter what the weather conditions are —rain, snow, wind, cold Possible Future Career Path: Mountain operations or maintenance management
